Marcello Scalisi

Marcello Scalisi is the Director of UNIMED – Mediterranean Universities Union – since 2008. He holds a degree in Historical Sciences and in International Cooperation at the Faculty of Literature, Philosophy and Languages of University of Roma Tre, Rome. He gained extensive experience in Sicily in the sustainable tourism sector, managing and monitoring EU projects for local tourism development and providing vocational training for dozens of companies and thousands of workers. He started working at UNIMED in 1998 as project manager and moved gradually to the coordination of UNIMED’s European, International and National funded initiatives and projects. Since Marcello Scalisi became director of UNIMED, there has been a significant increase of the number of associated universities to the network, funded projects and employees and collaborators. Moreover, UNIMED is nowadays a permanent stakeholder of the European Commission.

Cristina Stefanelli

Cristina Stefanelli joined UNIMED in 2013 as project manager. She has a background in Architecture and Urban Planning and she has worked for several years at the Multimedia Research Lab at the University Iuav of Venice. From 2000 onwards, she became increasingly involved in national and international projects in the field of technology-enhanced learning, geo-information systems, teaching and learning technologies, 3D virtual environments and virtual mobility. She has designed and led a number of training initiatives including secondary school and university teacher training and she is an experienced workshop facilitator in the area of learning innovation. She has also a significant experience in the monitoring and evaluation of small and large scale projects (R&D Framework Programmes as well as projects funded by the LLP, ALFA, Tempus and Erasmus+), including technical and financial reporting.

Martina Zipoli

Martina Zipoli has joined the International projects and networking team of UNIMED in 2016. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Political Sciences and Cooperation Studies, and a Master Degree in Public Administration (MPA) at the University of Bergen (Norway) with a specific focus on organisations and politics, and on Higher Education Institutions. She has been working with EU funded projects in the field of education since 2014, and gained experience in proposals writing, research activities, monitoring and evaluation, and project management.

Graziella Gaglione

Graduated in Political Sciences in 1992, IRO Officer at Sapienza since 2008 managing international cooperation and students’ mobility projects. Former Responsible for EU and special projects and for MENA countries and Balkan Area at the Rome Chamber of Commerce (2000 – 2008). EU expert in Kosovo in 2000 at UNMIK Department of Transport and Infrastructures. Auxiliare contract in DG1B and Service Commun Relex at the European Commission in Brussels in 1997-1999 dealing with the recruitment system of experts able to carry out technical assistance missions in third countries.

Benedetta Cassani

She graduated in Economics (2003) and obtained a Ph.D. in Economic Geography. Before joining Sapienza IRO Office, she has carried out research activities in collaboration with several institutions (Council of Europe, Sapienza University, Unesco Chair) focusing on migration and development issues. Since 2011, she has been working at Sapienza at the International Office providing support to the submission and management of European projects mainly in the area of Social sciences and humanities.

Rosa Di Stefano

She carried out her studies at University of Toronto (Canada) graduating in Political Science and International Relations in 2010. She specialised in development studies and project cycle management obtaining a Master degree at the Institute for Advanced Study of Pavia-IUSS. In 2012, she moved to Ecuador where she worked in the field of international cooperation for various NGOs. Since her return to Italy, she has been focusing on Erasmus+ and H2020 projects, working at Sapienza IRO Office and for private training institutions.

Louise Watts

Louise Watts is Head of European Projects at Campus France. Louise is responsible for developing and overseeing a portfolio of EU-funded projects in fields such as international academic mobility, capacity building, higher education cooperation and the promotion of European higher education.

Johanna Rasplus

Johanna Rasplus is Deputy Head of the European Projects unit at Campus France. She joined the Agency in 2010 after having been in charge of one of the Campus France offices overseas, in Africa. At Campus France head office Johanna is currently in charge of the follow-up of EU-funded initiatives on higher education and academic cooperation.

Michael Gaebel

Michael Gaebel is the director of the Higher Education Policy Unit, which focuses on issues related to higher education learning and teaching, including the Bologna Process, lifelong learning, e-learning and MOOCs, internationalisation and global dialogue. When he first joined the organisation in 2006, he was in charge of developing EUA’s international strategy and global exchange and cooperation. Before joining EUA, Michael worked for more than a decade in higher education cooperation and development in the Middle East, the former Soviet Union and Asia. From 2002 to 2006, he was the European Co-Director of the ASEAN-EU University Network Programme (AUNP) in Bangkok. Michael graduated with a Masters in Middle Eastern Studies and German Literature and Linguistics from the Freie University Berlin, Germany.

Henriette Stoeber

Henriette Stoeber is a Policy/Project Officer in the Higher Education Policy Unit. Prior to joining EUA, she has worked as a research assistant at the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference and spent several years at the German Academic Exchange Service’s (DAAD) National Agency for Higher Education Cooperation, initially as intern/research assistant and later as programme manager for the projects “Development of the European Higher Education Area” and “Promoting Bologna in Germany”. Furthermore, Henriette has worked for the private sector in the field of administration, mainly based in the UK. Henriette holds a Joint Master degree in European Public Policy from the University of York and Central European University, where she specialised in the field of higher education policy.
